Corporal Eric William Baker, died in a Japanese POW camp.A returned prisoner of War from the Far East has brought the news to Mr & Mrs G. S. Baker of 79 Irchester-road, Rushden that their only son, Corporal Eric William Baker, R.A.F. died in captivity 12 to 15 months ago from beri-beri. The news was conveyed by L.A.C. Ted Green, R.A.F. of Washbrook-road, who was in the Java camp with Corpl. Baker and Marine-Corporal E. E. Jones of Harborough-road. He said the airman received every attention. The one and only message received from Corpl. Baker since the Far East disaster was in the form of a postcard in December 1943, in which he said he was a prisoner in Java.
Corpl. Baker was 28 and before service was employed by the Co-operative Butchery Dept in High Street south, and belonged to the Mission Band. His fiance was Wren B Crawford of Rhyl.
