Horse Racing

King Bruce Rushden Echo & Argus, 11th July 1954, transcribed by Kay Collins

King Bruce, the racehorse owned by Mr Walter Tarry, Rushden shoe manufacturer, gave an impressive performance at Birmingham on Tuesday in winning the valuable Festival Stakes. Many Rushden people saw the colt run away with the race, and critics nominated it the best performance seen in a sprint this season. King Bruce was ridden by Frank Durr, who rode him in the 2,000 Guineas in April and is pictured above. Trainer P Hastings-Bass said the colt would be reserved for the July Cup at Newmarket.
