PAST and present ambulance volunteers celebrated the 100th anniversary of St John Ambulance in Rushden with a party. The get-together gave former and serving members an opportunity to catch up on news and views.
One of the organisers of the event, at the Fitzwilliam Street headquarters, Reg Summerling, said he thought the founders of the group would have been proud of its activities over the years. He said: "It has been a wonderful achievement to serve the people of Rushden for a century. I feel the people who started it would have been proud of what has been achieved."
The party had special significance for Mr Summerling, a sergeant in the group, who is retiring. He was recently been awarded the honour of being made a Serving Brother - one of the organisations highest accolades.
