Secondary Education for Boys in Rushden (1949-1991)

Rushden Intermediate School, in the Hayway, opened in 1925 to provided a co-education
for boys and girls of secondary age. In 1949 Tennyson Road County Modern School
opened to provide a Secondary Modern Education for boys between the ages of 11 and 15
in Rushden and Higham Ferrers. The girls stayed at Hayway school which was then called
North End Secondary Modern School for girls.

Metalwork class
Metalwork is a special subject at Rushden’s new school for boys —the first complete prefabricated school in the district.

The first classes began this week in a finely-equipped centre, where Mr Glover, the metal work expert,
is seen explaining the
use of apparatus.
