Rose's Fashion Centre was next to the Feathers Inn at 105 High Street from 1940. The shop front was quite narrow but a long corridor with widows and displays on both sides, led into a large shop, where they sold ladies' fashions.
Next door, at 109, was M Tomalin & Son Ltd, dyers and cleaners. They had opened at 85 High Street in about 1914, and moved to 109 in 1940 where they remained until at least 1956. Express Dry Cleaners took over the premises.
This part of High Street had been widened in about 1934, and when these properties were rebuilt, along with the Feathers. Before the rebuilding, the property had been Rollie Cox's Cafe, and he then moved along to 45 High Street.
Trustee Savings Bank opened a branch at 111 High Street, but soon moved to 70 High Street in 1958.
